Frequently Asked Questions

We know many of you have questions about the status of the DHIS incentive scheme.

This FAQ has been created to address common questions around the current status of the DHIS incentive scheme with the latest available information and provide clarity on what this means for you.

Understanding DHIS

The Digital Health Incentive Scheme (DHIS) is an initiative launched by the National Health Authority (NHA) under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM).

Introduced on January 1, 2023, the scheme aimed to promote the adoption of digital health practices by offering financial incentives to healthcare providers for creating and linking patient records with the Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA).

The DHIS was introduced to:

  • Accelerate the digitisation of health records across India
  • Encourage healthcare providers to actively participate in the ABDM ecosystem
  • Improve accuracy, accessibility, and efficiency in patient care

Announcement

Yes, the DHIS incentive scheme has now ended as of June 30, 2025.

When attempting to register for DHIS, the portal now displays the following message:

As of 30th June 2025, DHIS policy has concluded and we are currently not accepting new registration claims.

At the time of launch, the NHA had allocated ₹50 crore for the initial 6-month phase of the scheme. It was clearly stated that the continuation, modification, or closure of the scheme would be based on ongoing evaluation. This means the scheme was never intended to run indefinitely.

While there has been no formal public announcement, the following may help explain the current status of the scheme:

  • The NHA is satisfied with the growing adoption of ABDM, which may no longer require financial incentives for participation.
  • The allocated budget has likely been exhausted, and no extension or renewal has been communicated.

We understand that this announcement may be frustrating. We understand that this update may be frustrating. While there were unofficial indications about the scheme possibly ending, no formal public notice was available at the time. We felt it was best to wait before sharing anything prematurely.

Now that the DHIS portal itself displays a message during registration, we are informing you directly to ensure transparency.

Pending incentives and registrations

If you registered and fulfilled the eligibility criteria before June 30, 2025, you may still be eligible for incentives for transactions conducted up to that date.

However, the processing of these incentives may depend on NHA’s final guidelines and is likely subject to the availability of funds.

Yes, claims submitted before June 30, 2025, should be considered, provided they meet the scheme’s criteria. However, like above, final processing will depend on NHA’s internal review and remaining funds.

We advise keeping an eye on updates from NHA regarding this.

Incentives for eligible transactions submitted before June 30, 2025, are expected to be processed.

Although no specific timeline has been announced, you can be assured that valid claims will be honoured as per NHA guidelines.

No. As the scheme officially concluded on June 30, 2025, any uploads or record updates made after this date will not qualify for DHIS incentives.

While both of you may be eligible for the January incentive, processing depends on several factors, like when the claim was submitted and when registration was completed.

If your colleague submitted their claim earlier, it may have entered the processing queue sooner. Timelines can vary from case to case.

If your claim was submitted before June 30, it should still be processed as per NHA guidelines.

It’s possible your colleague submitted their claim for March’s transactions before June 30th, and the system allowed it because the DHIS scheme was still active at that time. If you are trying to submit after June 30th, the scheme has now officially concluded, and new claims are no longer being accepted.

Even if both of you performed similar transactions, only claims submitted while the scheme was active are considered valid.

It’s likely your colleague submitted their claim before June 30, when the DHIS scheme was still accepting entries. After that date, new claims are no longer allowed as the scheme has officially ended.

Only claims submitted while the scheme was active are considered valid.

We remain in close contact with the designated team and will do our best to get updates. However, please note that incentive disbursement is managed by NHA and is subject to fund availability.

What Next?

There have been early discussions around a potential future version of the scheme (DHIS 2), but no official confirmation has been made yet.

Any new developments will be communicated either by the NHA or through the MediXcel Connect Team, on NHA’s behalf.

Yes. We strongly recommend continuing to create and link ABHAs. This process supports better patient care and strengthens the digital health infrastructure, regardless of the status of financial incentives.

Even in the absence of incentives, creating and linking ABHAs offers multiple long-term benefits:

  • Improved patient care through better access to health history
  • Easier retrieval of past records
  • Streamlined OPD processes for registration and consultation
  • Greater data accuracy and reliability
  • Reduction in paperwork and manual errors
  • Contribution to India’s growing digital health ecosystem

Financial incentives were never the only value of adopting ABDM; they were just an initial catalyst.

Support and Escalation

We understand this situation can be frustrating, especially if you were counting on the incentives. It may feel like your efforts have gone to waste.

But your work in creating and linking ABHAs has made a real impact. You have not only supported your patients, you’ve contributed to a stronger, more connected healthcare system and enhanced the position of India as a global pathfinder in digital health.

We truly appreciate your efforts and will keep you informed if any new updates or opportunities are introduced by the NHA.
